THE AGAPE ORPHANAGE PROJECT
LOCATION
In the Lwengo district of central Uganda
FOUNDER/DIRECTOR
Mr. Ssenyondo George
BACKGROUND
"Why did I start this orphanage home? One day I heard a voice speaking to me telling me to start an orphanage home. The voice told me to help the orphans who are in the villages. At that time the majority of orphan homes were located in major towns, and I also lived in a major town, but the voice commanded me to go into the villages to help the orphans.
When I went into the villages I found that there were a lot of orphans who were struggling with famine. They were desperately in need of food, clothing, medical treatment, and a formal education. I found that many of the orphans in these villages were victims of HIV/AIDS, whose parents have died as a result of this disease."
I got started by bringing together many of the children I believed to be living in the most dire conditions, and currently now have a total of 32 orphans residing with me in my orphanage home." - Mr. Ssenyondo George
THE PROBLEM
In order to become a self-sustaining community, it is essential that Agape Orphanage teach the children important skills such as agriculture. This will greatly decrease their dependency on outside sources for nourishment. Unfortunately, Agape Orphanage does not at this point have acquired the means to do so.
In any community, proper education is crucial to its survival. Agape Orphanage does not at this time have the proper staff, nor the materials to conduct schooling in a classroom setting.
Agape Orphanage is very quickly outgrowing their current living situations and are in great need of more living space. In addition, being that they are living in an area that does not promote clean living situations, it is frequent that the children fall sick with malaria - so proper medical care is very important for their survival.
